Dragon Boat Success!
St. John's got off to an absolutely flying start at the Dragon Boat race on Saturday at Bewl Water. Right from the outset they took the lead and within seconds seemed to wave or rather splash ferociously goodbye to the other two teams, leaving them in the spray of the St John’s boat. The gap grew huge until it became obvious they would triumph with ease. With Mrs Slade at the helm and a strong team they met and exceeded (by 10 seconds) their best time of 2013 in the very first race.
They went on to achieve a row of 1 minute in the second race and after the third race ended up in 6th position out of 40 teams. Sadly, subsequent teams rowed marginally faster and St John’s did not achieve a place in the final.
The team, however, felt rightly proud of the day’s achievements and, with the wonderful Indian Summer weather, all had a grand day out. Dean said, “I can’t honestly say I was looking forward to it but in the end I massively enjoyed the day and would urge others to join in next year, as it is great fun”.
